Sidonie Gout is in her 2nd year at Strate. The second year is a year of preparation for the choice of specialization. Sidonie tells us about her choice and her 2 years as a Stratos!
HELLO SIDONIE, CAN YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF?
Hey! My name is Sidonie. I am 19 years old and I am in my 2nd year of design at Strate. I’m curious about everything and it would be almost easier to tell you what I don’t like to do rather than what I enjoy (laughs). A little more seriously my studies fascinate me, I drew for years and I always liked to invent things. Since I no longer live with my parents, I always have something to do, between projects for Strate or those more personal, work, and everything else but I enjoy this dynamic.
WHAT WAS YOUR BACKGROUND BEFORE ENTERING STRATE?
I have always lived in the Paris region and before Strate, I did a Bac S spé SVT. A few years ago, I wanted to start studying to become a veterinarian and then finally realized that it would not suit me. I am lucky to have parents who supported me in my choice of orientation.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO GO INTO DESIGN AND WHY AT STRATE?
I discovered this training quite late since it was in the final year. So, I followed preparatory courses with Pass’Art during that year to be sure of my choice. In the end, since I have always liked to draw, photograph, invent things, experiment (my little scientific side that remains), and that I have a real interest in humans and their behaviour, I think that with the design I aimed for. At Strate, we are lucky to be able to tackle all these things and I was able to learn a lot about myself and others, in addition to “learning” the design.
IS THERE ALREADY ONE OR MORE MAJORS THAT INTEREST YOU MORE OR ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE END OF ALL THE INITIATIONS TO DECIDE?
Honestly, I don’t know. I arrived at Strate School of Design, telling myself that I will never go on the move, perhaps more in Product, but today there is no major that I exclude and I expect a lot from initiations to be able to guide my choice. For the moment I think rather of “mob” (the specialization, Mobility Design) or Space but nothing is decided.
YOU ARE IN 2ND YEAR DESIGN, WHAT IS YOUR DREAM TODAY?
Make the world simpler, more just, more beautiful? (laughs) More seriously, I don’t know yet which specialization/career I am heading to and it is still difficult for me to answer this question. However, I know that thanks to design I will be able to convey, through my work, ideas that are close to my heart. I hope that I will continue to take as much pleasure in what I do.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AFTER YOUR STUDIES?
After my studies, as I said, I’m not yet sure where I’m going. I don’t plan so much yet, although it happens quickly. I prefer to live in the present moment and believe me there are already enough things to do. I don’t necessarily see myself living in France, I want to go on an adventure, to travel and discover other cultures and other ways of thinking.
Thank you, Sidonie! Good luck for the future.
